Riz Lateef is a newsreader and main presenter of the BBC's regional television news service for London, BBC London.

Early life

After secondary school, Riz undertook a journalism course at the Polytechnic of Central London and then attended the Cranfield School of Management, in Bedfordshire, from which she obtained an MBA.

Career

She presents the flagship BBC London News 6:30pm bulletin and some editions of the 10:30 programme. Until October 2008 she presented the 8pm news summary on BBC One in place of Ellie Crisell while she was on maternity leave. She continues to present the bulletin in place of Ellie Crisell on Fridays.

She joined the programme in 2004 as a reporter and occasional newsreader. Following the departure of Emily Maitlis in March 2006 to present on BBC News 24, Riz has been promoted to present the flagship 6.30pm BBC London News programme on BBC One. She was also the main anchor for the BBC London News Podcast, presented by BBC as a trial. This was available on iTunes and the BBC London website between the summers of 2006 and 2007.

Previously, she has reported for BBC Breakfast and presented regional news for the BBC in the North East & Cumbria. Riz was also a guest presenter on BBC One's Holiday programme[1] in 2003 and 2004. She also presented relief shifts on BBC News 24 in 2006. She is a main relief presenter for the BBC Weekend News on BBC One and the BBC News Channel.

Riz's parents are originally from Pakistan. She has two elder sisters and one younger brother.
